Primary Schools

The ultimate learning experience through space and time.

Spaceport, an education attraction, has direct links to the science/astronomy curriculum. For children aged 6 – 11 (Key Stage 1 and 2) the following parts of the space curriculum are featured at Spaceport:

The Solar System and accompanying worksheets cover:The Observatory

  • Sun, Moon, and Earth are approximately spherical
  • The relative sizes of the Sun, Moon and Earth
  • The Moon takes about 28 days to orbit the Earth
  • The Moon’s appearance as it orbits the Earth
  • The Earth takes a year to orbit the Sun

As part of your visit to Spaceport, you can become a virtual space explorer in our 360 degree, Space Dome Show, where our latest show Astronaut is showing. Here your class will learn how an astronaut is trained and the dangers they face in space.

Primary schools visiting Spaceport can also take part in our Rocket Launching Workshops (for an additional fee of £1.00 per child) and learn how to launch a rocket using compressed air. Each pupil gets to take a rocket kit home - please ensure you book in advance as places are limited and are only suitable for primary school children.

A visit to Spaceport typically takes at least two hours, of which approximately 30 minutes is spent in our space dome theatre show.

We have education packs that cater for pupils studying at Key Stages 1 and 2. You can download these from the Downloadable Resources page.
